Space Shuttle Cake

As a child my dream was to become a pastry chef but where I grew up there were no culinary schools so I just learned it from watching videos and reading all about cakes. If given a chance I'd love to work on weekends in a pastry shop to improve my skills.


I made this cake for a colleague of mine who wanted NASA as the theme cake for her son's birthday. I made the shuttle with Rice Krispies and gum paste. I made the shuttle standing on earth ready to take off and the other half of the cake I made to look like the galaxy with stars. On the side of the cake I put astronauts. Every thing on this cake is edible and I put in a lot of effort doing the art work. I hope you too will like it.

This cake is out of this world, literally!!! This is the most creative, artistic and unique cake I've ever seen. Congrats to a very talented cake artist!!! Unbelievable that everything editable! If it tastes half as good as it looks... I'd marry its creator!

The cake is really well decorated down to the detail of the NASA logo. It does not just look nice but looks delicious. Give me some ice cream and I will be ready to dig in. Great job!!!!!!!!

Congrats to a very talented cake artist!!! It is Unbelievable that everything on this cake is editable! If it tastes half as good as it looks... you ought to get first place.

I love Meena's cakes! They are works of art! She is very talented and everyone who has seen her cakes agrees. The shuttle cake is the most creative one I've seen but the others she has made are just as amazing. She should have her own TV show.

Very unique and colorful cake. Good use of the ingredients and I like the fact that all is edible. For someone like a space buff like me, this cake would have epitomized my birthday in my young years, maybe it still will if I can find similar in Australia.

Good luck with the entry, looks awesome and I'm sure it will taste the same...

Wonderful and delicious cake, Meena. The party was a HUGE success--it amazed even hard-to-impress teens. (They took the shuttle apart to find the Rice Krispy core.)

The flames, added a few minutes before serving, were a nice touch. And the lemon flavoring was perfect--good balance of textures and flavors.

The three dimensions of Earth, air, and space really dazzled everyone, and I was flabbergasted at your work on the shuttle and astronauts. The silver sprinkles in a starry sky were a nice touch!

Both of my son's friends asked to take pieces home, and I had enough left over after the party to serve seven people in these kids' families. I was glad to have lots of astronauts to go around. (The detail work on the shuttle was noticed by a young engineer at the event.)

You always do more that the customer expects, but your work is truly out of this world this time!

Thank you again for your efforts to make this a really smashing birthday for a guy who got a real a lift from this cake and was totally surprised!
