Safari Cake

This safari cake was for our godson Aiden's baby shower
Let me first start by saying that I
love creating new cakes and seeing what I can do! I started baking and decorating when I lost my first child. It was something to keep me occupied and focused. I found out that I really had a knack for it and loved it!!!
My Inspiration
This design was inspired by my own story. Ive been married for 3 years now. My husband and I have been trying to have a baby. In the past year, I have had 2 miscarriages in the first trimester. Everyone knows how much we want a child.
We are praying that God blesses us with a healthy baby soon. In the meantime two of my friends found out they were pregnant at the same time I had been. They asked my husband and I to be the god parents of their children. Of course we accepted.
About The Safari Cake
I made 3 tiers, vanilla and strawberry. I used 3 pillars between the bottom and middle layer, then just placed the top layer on.
Fondant Cake Decorating Tips
The animals I made out of fondant. I have learned that you have to make these items at least 2 weeks ahead of time to give them time to harden. They also melt on top if left on too long. So Ive learned to refrigerate them when they are on the actual cake.
Next I placed the animals on with sticking a lollipop stick through he bottom of it, that way it stands up on.
This safari cake was a HUGE hit at the baby shower!!
Thank you Kerri for your very touching story and your awesome entry. We wish you all the best and hope that you have a healthy baby soon.
