Rachael's Wedding Cake
Hi Everyone
I am the Lead Baker / Decorator of Addi Cakes in Freeport Illinois. I am assisted in decorating by my wife Carrie and one employee.
Addi Cakes was formed in 2010, which was a difficult year for me, I was laid off from my regular job as an equipment operator in the electrical union, there was no work in the area and my father was battling pancreatic cancer.
After working a total of 4 months off and on through the year I was laid off for good, at that time we were told they could do nothing more to help my father, on November 13th he passed away.
The Healing Power of Baking
Being no stranger to the kitchen I turned to baking to help cope with the loss, this is when I found the hidden talents I had inside.
Addicakes Was Born
In Dec, I decided to attend a local Christmas Bazaar an sell cupcakes as a way to make some extra money to pay bills and buy Christmas gifts for my daughter Addison, At this Bazaar is when Addi Cakes was born.
Cake Decorating Business? Why Not?
We received such an overwhelming response to our cupcakes and were blessed with many orders for Christmas, it only made sense to turn it into a business and create a website and Facebook page.
Naturally we named it after our precious Daughter, who hopefully one day will take over the business and continue on.
Things quickly took off as word spread around town about our products, orders began to pour in and our out of the home business took off, allowing us to open a retail store.
A Very Special Cake
This wedding cake was a creation we made for the daughter of our city Mayor and was designed to match the colors and theme of her wedding.
The cake sat on a damask pattern tablecloth, surrounded by tables of black damask, with teal blue and lime green accents. The entire reception was a breathtaking display.
