Hello Kitty Cake!!!
by Diane Shankles

I made this Hello Kitty Cake for my granddaughter....she just turned 5. I decorated cakes years ago for my children, and well...they grew up and I stopped baking.
Rediscovering Baking and Decorating
I just re discovered it again about a year ago, and I have found my passion. I LOVE baking. I watch every cake decorating show I can find, I have joined
ICES (International Cake Exploration Societé), and...WOW, I am going to the ICES convention in Charlotte, NC in August. My dream is to open my own bakery.
How I made My Hello Kitty Cake
My Cake is a three tier (only my 3rd) yellow cake, covered in pink buttercream, then draped in white
Satin Ice fondant. Kitty is make of gumpaste, but next time I will make her of Rice Crispy treats, covered in
modeling chocolate and fondant, which will make her much more sturdy. She is dressed as a ballerina, and doing a split...LOL....my grandbaby is taking ballet, instant inspiration.
White Chocolate Hearts (from the Wilton melts and a heat mold) and gumpaste flowers and dots finish it out. All in all, the cake took about 6 hours (not including baking time).
Shaped Pans
I also had the Hello Kitty Cakes that I made from the shaped pan on either side. I am including a picture of one of those, because unfortunately my camera quit on me before I could get pictures of all three together.
I hope you like!!!
oh...I have started a website also - one more step in my dream of doing this for a living.
Diane I love your entry. It's inspiring and your cake is so well done. I wish you all the best in your new rediscovery and cake adventures
