Hello Kitty Birthday Cake

My client requested a Hello Kitty cake for her granddaughter's 7th birthday. I had never carved a cake before and didn't think I could. However she had more confidence in me than I did!
I went on line and found a video showing how to carve the face. I enlarged a photo my client gave me and made a template. Working in two pieces, I first pinned the template of the kitty's face on a sheet cake and cut around it. The same with the body.
I frosted each, covered in fondant, and fit the two pieces together.
Really cute Hello Kitty Cake! Thank you Michelle for contributing to the photo collection. Job well done :-) I am sure that the little girl receiving this was very happy.
Your fondant is very smooth and colored so well. did you paint on the surface with food coloring? or is it colored fondant? If possible can you add more details about your cake for us? You can send it to me via email cpastrychef@gmail.com or use my contact page. A recipe that you used would be great or a tip or two that may help another cake decorator. Thank you so muchMore details from Michelle: Thanks for the glowing review! I used Satin Ice Fondant. It is expensive but is the smoothest fondant. I have made the marshmallow fondant before and while it tastes good it is not as smooth. I am going to keep trying on my own for smooth fondant. After covering the cakes, I painted them with luster dusts.
