Baby Event

by Donna Mandell
(MT Pleasant TN)

These are 4 display cakes I did for partnering up with our Tennessee Doulas last month. All handcrafted & sculpted figures, all different sugar mediums used (fondant, gum paste, modeling chocolate & also edible fabric etc)

1.Awaiting the Arrival: I molded a pregnant lady surrounded with edible fabric adorned with sugar flowers & pink ribbon. On top was a ranunculous with a molded newborn under petals. Bottom was 1x1 squares of edible chocolate fabric crinkled, cake board is chocolate satin ribbon covered.
2. Baby girl display: 3 tier - Bottom tier fondant knitted sweater, mid tier fondant lace & ribbon, top tier molded baby embellishments & hand sculpted baby lop eared bunny. Cake board in pink tuille.
3. Baby Boy display: 2 tier, top tier in brown sugar for beach, fondant baby in sailor dress, beach blanket & life preserver, Cocktail umbrella, bottom tier as ocean with white peaked waves & a hand sculpted baby sailor elephant.
4. Christening display: Look of an old book with a bible verse & handcrafted yellow sugar roses, other side of book has hand sculpted baby adorned in a christening outfit with teddy bear toy & a fondant cross, book marker is a purple satin ribbon.

Every display cake was made so that if ordered could be easily done in cake. Hope you enjoy.
