Welcome Baby Sidney
This baby carriage cake is my favorite cake I have done yet. Not only did it come out great but it was for a very special little boy. Baby Sidney was about to be welcomed by a family that was adopting him.
This family had tried many times to conceive and after three miscarriages realized that adoption was the answer for them. They went through many ups and downs but finally found the perfect situation with a woman who was putting her child up for adoption and was to be conceived around Christmas day.
The shower that this baby carriage cake was for, I was lucky enough to go to. There was more such an out pour of love waiting on Sidney it was heartwarming to know that he was going to born in to the best possible circumstance. He is now a month old and already smiling!
One thing I found that I was avoiding doing was the mouth of the baby. I didn't want to give a weird expression so I decided to put a pacifier, made with gumpaste and love the way it came out!
How To Make The Gumpaste Quilt
The other part that was pretty fun to do was the quilt. Just cut thin strips to equal sizes. Lay as many as you would like (depending how big you want it) vertically with equal space as the width of the strip between each one. Now weave the rest of the strips horizontally, over/under. Starting the opposite way each row.
You can finish the edges however you like. Take your rolling pin and roll over it to get it all to be one piece. This gives a great quilted look, for Sydney's baby carriage cake.
