This 4th of July cake was for a very special person. My husband is currently deployed, and missed Father's day, and the 4th of July, when he came home for 2 weeks ago on leave we had a little luau and a special patriotic cake that combined the days that he missed!
Th cake is 3 tiers of pineapple cake with pineapple buttercream covered in marshmallow fondant. It was my 4 year old son's idea to make the fondant waves around the bottom tier, and helped make some of the decorations.
I added a lot of things that reminded me of Hawaii, hibiscus flowers, surf boards, pineapples, and of course a coconut tree complete with coconuts (thanks to my helper)! Then to top it all off we added a fondant American flag to the mix...and yup all 50 stars!!
Wow Sarah what a great patriotic cake. You must be very proud of your husband. That is so sweet that your 4 year old son helped you to decorate this very special cake for daddy. And the pineapple flavor sounds amazing. Great story and great photos of a fantastic entry. Thank you. To see the comments for this winning entry click on the comments link right below.
