Transporting Cupcakes

Hi there. What is the best way to transport cupcakes to a venue? Should I frost and decorate them before or after arriving at the venue? What can I use to carry them in? Thanks for your help.
Hi Jessica, It depends on how many cupcakes you are making and delivering, and what kind of decoration. Cupcakes are time consuming, so I personally would try to have them frosted, decorated and boxed for delivery.
The cake box should be a good firm one or you can place a cardboard base into the bottom of the boxes for stability. I hope that helps you with transporting cupcakes to the venue.
UPDATE:FOR A LARGE AMOUNT OF CUPCAKES> Unless you invest in special delivery boxes or cupcake carriers, I recommend the following...
I recently made 150 wedding cupcakes and realized the best way to deliver and set up the individual cakes was to do it at the venue. Freeze the cakes. Some of them were actually left in the tins and frozen. Wrap them with plastic wrap and stack them once they are frozen so they will fit into the freezer.
The ones that were not stored in the tins(I had only 4 cupcake pans yielding 12 each to work with) use boxes with low sides (like the ones for canned goods at the grocers) or use square pans, if you have a bunch (which is what I did)to place them in the freezer. Deliver them straight from the freezer to the air conditioned car and to the venue.
Bring all of your buttercream and decorations and set yourself up an hour or two before the reception. Place them directly onto the stand after frosting and decorating. I found this the best way to assure that the cupcakes arrived in one piece and looking their best.
